I still listen to reel-to-reels created from the vinyl I bought, or a few CDs that I have picked up since vinyl went away. I wasn't aware of the procedure when you downloaded onto an IPod, whether there it was directly to the device through a USB port or to a disk file to be added later.

If it went directly to the device and it died, you would have to replace everything from ITunes again, essentially buying it a second time.

I assume from your response that the purchased songs are stored on your disk and then moved to the IPod.

It is terrible to lose a piece of equipment that has become so familiar that you can ignore it, because even when it gets replaced it will never be exactly the same. The contents cannot be reloaded in the same fashion; the controls won't work exactly the same; all of the "short cuts" are gone.

They don't require you to re-buy all of the music when you get a new one, do they?
