One of These Things Is Not Like the Other

Barack Obama had a rally where 75,000 people attended, some of them in rowboats, as that was the only way to get within earshot of the massive crowd.* Meanwhile, John McCain has a rally with George W. as his guest speaker and ticket sales are so poor, it has to be moved out of the Phoenix Convention Center to a smaller, private venue.† Did I mention the rally is in his home state?

Tell me again, which candidate isn’t electable?

______
*Who, as you all know, showed up only to hear those super massive rock stars, The Decemberists, and were so stoned afterwards that they couldn’t find their cars and so stuck around to hear what the nice black man had to say.

† The dining room at the local IHOP. Free refills are on W!

John Kerry had an even larger turn out in Philly, and we know how that turned out.

Michael Dukakis was leading George HW Bush by 10% at this point in the 1988 campaign.

With the way we elect a President you need 1 more than half of the people who vote in enough states to get 270 electoral votes. That about 25% of the voters. Everyone else can vote against you, but you still win. A number of Presidents have lost the popular vote and still won.

Yeah but W was more popular in ‘04 than either he or McCain are now, combined. There was no rational reason for the election to have been that close but it was. Things are different now, though. The GOP doesn’t really even like McCain. Bob Barr has the potential to be a Naderesque spoiler and some republicans even like Obama. I think we have a shot at winning. I hope.
