		<description>Yeah but W was more popular in &#039;04 than either he or McCain are now, combined. There was no rational reason for the election to have been that close but it was. Things are different now, though. The GOP doesn&#039;t really even like McCain. Bob Barr has the potential to be a Naderesque spoiler and some republicans even like Obama. I think we have a shot at winning. I hope.</description>

Michael Dukakis was leading George HW Bush by 10% at this point in the 1988 campaign.

With the way we elect a President you need 1 more than half of the people who vote in enough states to get 270 electoral votes.  That about 25% of the voters.  Everyone else can vote against you, but you still win.  A number of Presidents have lost the popular vote and still won.</description>
