Unfortunately, Maine has a "people's veto" on the books which allows the voters to overturn a recently passed law. I have no doubts that the bigots will succeed in getting enough petition signatures to put it on the ballot this fall. Hopefully, the horrific example of California will inspire the "pro" side to the polls and keep the new law on the books. In another generation or so, this will all be a moot point anyway; it will be legal everywhere (except maybe Utah.) No sense backsliding in the meantime, though.
