They were smart kids, well motivated, bright and fun to work with. During one workshop I described a character we were 'developing' as being like 'Dirty Harry'. Blank looks. "You know? Like in the Dity Harry movies? ' Go on, punk, make my day...'?" Pause. "Clint Eastwood?" Nothing. Not a flicker of recognition. A short while back I was teaching a drama class of teenage kids. May have to check them out. Not to say the new Star Trek movie didn't have it's problems. Red Matter doesn't just make singularities, it also makes plot holes you could fly a Starship through. The first three dozen or so novels--the ones written before <cite>The Next Generation</cite>, when the suits weren't paying attention to what the writers were doing. All my favorite <cite>Star Trek</cite> stories are from that era. On the other hand... I loved the new movie while I was watching it, but fell out of love about half an hour after it was over.
